thesis collection: the host - spring 2025

In a world where rampant waste and overconsumption prevail, I envision a future in which we may evolve through symbiotic or parasitic relationships that facilitate essential genetic adaptations. "The Host" is a knitwear collection inspired by these themes. It interprets them through generally simple silhouettes, enhanced with trims, appliqués, and innovative fiber development, resulting in a more raw form of expression.

Materials Used:

Look One:
Cape - 3/8 100% wool fully-fashioned hand-dyed and carded to create custom fiber, then felted in a gradient from grey to creme fading into hand-spun sheephair fringe and wool/silk boucle yarn.
Top - 7gg 100% heathered wool fully-fashioned traveling cables and needles out of action tank top.
Bottoms - 7gg 100% heathered wool Stoll generated pointelle, cables, and “barnacle” detailing drawstring pants. “Barnacle” detailing has a tubular trim finished knitted on flatbed brother. I-cord drawstring with metal aglets.

Look Two:
Stole - 100% wool, hand and machine felted tri-layered skeletal stole. Cut then molded to fit on form to create a collar. Fringe consists of hand-spun sheephair and wool/silk boucle yarn. I-cord tie closure with metal aglets.
Dress - 3/8 100% wool fully-fashioned spiky hand-knit open back minidress. Hand-dyed and carded to create custom fiber to be felted then beaded on top. Felted and beaded areas emulated a feeling of a parasitic relationship growing on top and creeping through the foundation.
